Current Limiting Fuse For Cut-out Switch Fuse

The world’s first current-limiting fuse for COS (Cut-Out Switch) is an innovative solution that overcomes the limitations of Expulsion Fuses. Installed on medium-voltage distribution lines and on the primary side of pole-mounted transformers, it safely interrupts fault currents without generating arcs or noise, providing effective protection for transformers.

Application: Primary Side of Pole-Mounted Transformers

Key Features

  • No arc or noise during interruption, ensuring excellent fire prevention.
  • High-speed interruption (within 0.5 cycle) prevents momentary outages caused by recloser operation.
  • Adoption of a ceramic tube enhances resistance to heat, moisture, and salt.

Why Is a Current-Limiting Fuse for COS Essential?

“Expulsion fuses generate arcs during operation, posing a significant fire risk.”

Expulsion Fuse vs. Current-Limiting Fuse: Comparison during Interruption

Tested under identical conditions at KEPCO’s Gochang Test Center.
  • Expulsion Fuse

Expulsion Fuses generate arcs and loud explosions during interruption, creating fire hazards and causing both explosive noise and momentary power outages.

  • Current-Limiting Fuse

Current-limiting fuses do not generate arcs or noise during interruption, preventing fires and ensuring operator safety.

Technical Achievements

  • Developed and applied the world’s first current-limiting fuse for COS (Cut-Out Switch)
  • Successfully completed KEPCO on-site technology development project (rated Excellent)
  • Adopted as the KEPCO standard for current-limiting DDO fuse (GS-5920-0030)
  • Verified by accredited testing institute (KERI)
